It’s always good to have days like today….Where we’re out of gas when it comes to energy, having to maybe force feed getting our WOD in, or showing up at the box when it’s not convenient or isn’t really gonna work for the schedule maybe. OR maybe the WOD is so NOT MY STRENGTH, and the potential to NOT get the best time is high… It’s on days like today, when we have to “Getter Done”, where everything in me may be saying I DON’T want to, AND I say, I’m GOING to, something brilliant shows up! What in the world could show up by doing something I desperately don’t want to do, or am scared to do, but choosing to do it anyway you ask??? Humility….Strength…..Mental Endurance……Drive…. Just to name a few…. Success!
I’m definitely NOT the fastest runner at the box, or in my family, that is for sure…. And to be honest, I’m super ok with that. I’m choosing to get better, get stronger, and work on something that isn’t a strength right now. And as a coach… to see some of our students school me on a workout is pretty awesome! Because it means THEY are improving, getting stronger, faster, and more confident! Now that’s what it’s about for me, to genuinely see them succeed! I wouldn’t be doing my job if it didn’t happen. As a parent, to see my girl’s school me in the run, brings pure JOY to my heart! I WANT them better at things then I am.
A Coach, parent, or any leader for that matter, we should WANT the success of others above our own. Little snip it on this to add, just as your coach, a REAL person, that has REAL days. Today was a day, when my muscles screamed, “Hey, remember all those heavy squats and all that running you did yesterday??? We’ll I’m tired and really don’t want to move today.” HAHA, yep that was definitely what they were screaming today, and yet, I still had a WOD to do, because it’s important to me to keep going even when I don’t “Feel” like it. So, my mind told those muscles to move anyway regardless and haha, oh boy, let’s just say it really wasn’t very pretty. Haha.
Now I told you, I’m human, a very real person, not superhuman and I have off days just like everyone, and today was mine. I’m not dwelling on how bad the run sucked or how much more I should have cut off my times, I’m just grateful to have moved today. I did my best, and I finished! That’s what the heart of CrossFit is, to compete with yourself, to encourage others to be AWESOME, and help them meet and beat their goals! That’s what the community of CrossFit does and I’m so grateful to be a part of it!! There’s a reminder in our box that each one of us sees every day on the Student Code of Conduct, “Leave your pride at the door. There will always be someone out there bigger, faster, and stronger than you. Never say I can’t.” All we have to do is show up, give our best and that’s Success. Success is finishing what we start, and even if it was force feeding, we finish with all we have.
Honored to be your coach!!
